Dear Members,
Some 13 months have elapsed since, due to the lack of a vice-captain, I was invited to assume the captaincy for the coming year. I was flattered to have been asked and accepted gladly but with reservations.
Unlike my predecessors, I excluded myself from evening social events mainly due to my predilection for a post-prandial nap, which could lead to the unedifying sight of your Captain’s nose down in the brown Windsor. Thus I have had the privilege of being elected to a second term.
Since April there has been a gentle improvement in our financial state, aided in no small part by the resignation of Tom, the Pro., and to a great degree by the regular use of the Centenary suite, not forgetting the early evening members ‘drinking for England’.
Our progress, I believe, is upward, the course has recently shown considerable improvement, the manning of the pros. shop by volunteers not only shows a degree of commitment to the availability of the club but is making a valuable green fee contribution.
These are only some of the activities undertaken by members as well as staff, for this help and support in keeping Royal Gatters afloat I am truly grateful and I hope that my fellow members will have similar regard for them.
