The weekend finally arrived and I have now been installed in the honoured position as Captain of Gatley Golf Club. I am proud to have been asked, and look forward to working and playing golf with both the Council and yourselves over the coming 12 months.
I said at our AGM that I intend to enjoy my Captaincy year in terms of playing and becoming involved in the Social events that we are planning and I can assure you that if I am enjoying myself, you will be also.
Thanks to the efforts of the Chairman of Greens and his team of ground staff and volunteers the course is starting to show vast improvement and given good weather, we are going to have a great summer of golf.
I also said at the AGM we do face a big challenge in terms of both retaining and growing our membership across all levels. This obviously affects the Clubs income stream and is not a problem unique to Gatley Golf Club.
We are putting plans in place to address the membership challenge and are also planning to maximise the revenues we accrue from our other big asset, the Function Room and its related facilities.
Over the last 12 months our new Clubhouse manager Mike Davies has already started to make a big positive difference in this area.
The Captain and the excellent Council we have will be working as hard as they can to make your membership of Gatley Golf Club a rewarding and enjoyable experience. However we cannot do everything ourselves. If you have a good idea or believe you can assist in any way, please do not be backwards at coming forward.
On a final note thanks to everyone for your cards and good wishes.
Let us all have an enjoyable year and I hope to keep in regular touch with you all to ensure that we do!
